I have pergo floors in my house. I have tried everything to clean them...vinegar and water, Mr. Clean, Swiffer, soap and water, as well as other floor cleaners. This Pergo floor cleaner works better than ANYTHING else. It is easier and cleans better. I squirt it on the floor and mop it up with a dry mop. Trust me, if you have pergo flooring, this is the cleaner you should buy. I can't find it in stores so I'm happy amazon sells it for a good price. I had a similar mop that worked terrific, broke from rust. The two rollers are positioned so far apart that after you wring it out, it's still soaking wet. After wringing, I squeezed out the remaining water and there was 2/3 cup! After mopping medium-large water spots remain over the entire floor. The previous mop left none. This is a good product. Although I do not own one myself, I have used my father's many times when staying at his house to clean the hardwood floors. Just to let some of you know the idea behind the flat mop is that the pad itself needs to be removed and replaced FREQUENTLY. About the same number of times per cleaning as you would wring out and rinse a string mop. You mop the floor until the pad gets dirty and then you wash the pad in (ideally) a utility sink as if you were hand washing a t-shirt. When the pad is clean again you put it back on. This is a much more efficient method than just dragging the same old dirty string or sponge mop over a surface again and again. With this kind of system you can actually clean a floor. And when you are done you know it because any dirt remaining will be visible on your white mop pad/cloth. While living in Canada I was living alone and by removing my shoes each time I entered I was able to get the hardwood floors in my apartment so clean that I could walk barefoot over the floor without getting my feet dirty even in the slightest. So this kind of system works very, very well at getting a floor clean.
However, the velcro method that this system uses is a little less than ideal IMHO. At least I and probably many Europeans and Canadians have used much better versions. One problem with the velcro is that I have found eventually the velcro tape that comes glued to the bottom of the mop head becomes unglued. I suppose I could try to fix it by going out and buying some velcro tape at a hardware store, but I shouldn't have to do that. The other problem with velcro is that it takes a bit of effort to get the pad off. When removed with great frequency as is required with this kind of mop it can get a bit annoying.
The flat mop that I prefer is made by the German company Vileda. It is called the "Fibro-Contact" and uses a system where the mop head is hinged with a seam in the short direction. You press a spring loaded plastic button on the top of the mop head (which can also be pressed with your foot very easily) in order to quickly and easily detach the pocketed furry cotton pad/cloth to clean it in a sink. I find that this system (which relies on the mop pad having pockets on the ends) seems much better designed for the many pad removals necessary. With the Simplee mop I always have to spend a few annoying seconds fighting the velcro and patting down the mop head when replacing it. The system is just not as fast or as easy as other systems.

It cannot be bought through any of their resellers. You have to purchase directly through OCedar at 1-800-543-8105. I am not clear on how the Vileda Ultra Max system works exactly. It seems to use some kind of rubber fasteners to hold on the mop pad instead of using velcro or using a hinge. I have only just ordered one myself so I have no idea how well it works. For the hinge release flat mop from Vileda you will actually have to travel to Canada or Europe. Many retailers in Canada carry them. Canadian Tire and IGA are two examples. None of them ship to the US. So, other than the Vileda Ultra Max all we have to choose from are velcro flat mops like this Simplee or the Starfiber Starpro Microfiber Mop and Microfiber Pad Kit. I was skeptical. Yes I was. In fact, it sat on the shelf for months and months until my husband decided to use it. Months before we don't know what possessed him to use lemon furniture cleaner--I guess he couldn't take the non-shiny floors anymore. So he used Holloway House on the floors - when I got home - I could NOT believe how beautiful my dull floors looked - and that was just with one mopping. The more we walked on our socks on the floor, the shinier it seemed to get. It was amazing. I mop my floors my wood floors regularly, but only use Holloway house every other month or so - it leaves the floors just gorgeous. If you let it dry and mop it 2-3 more times, the shinier it is. In fact, my mother came by for Thanksgiving and she immediately said - 'you didn't tell me you had your floors done!" She could not believe all of that shine came from the bittle lottle (had to do that -- okay -little bottle). It leaves no residue, not stickyness, nothing - and I have nothing but wood floors all over my 4 bedroom house - with exception to my den and bathrooms which are tile -- it cleans those too! Just squirt it on the area and immediately mop (with a damp mop) as you go - so squirt and mop. Make sure you mop it right away and do not leave on floors because it will dry pretty quickly on the spots where you squirted it. I HIGHLY recommend this product if you have dull floors. The steamer works pretty good. It doesn't work great on grout. I have light grout in my bathroom that has become darker and the steamer helped a little. I owned a Shark steamer mop which worked pretty well, but when I saw the Haan infomercial, it seemed like such a sturdier, larger mop and with the ability to steam my couches and mattresses, I decided I would "upgrade" and give the Shark to my mom. I needed a good floor vacuum for the 2000 SF + of hardwoods that I acquired in my new house. I had been impressed with my Mom's old Electrolux from the 50's and this new one is just as powerful, but much sleeker in design. It does a great job sucking the construction debris out of the cracks between the floor boards. It also handles the extreme amount of dog hair (4 German Shepherds) with ease.
I have used the vacuum a couple of weeks and am still learning how to use it. I have five cats and a dog. I have a three-story house that is mostly plush carpet, Berber-type carpet in the basement and a ceramic tiled kitchen area. I vacuum everyday. I purchased the Bissell Pet Hair Eraser in July 09 for $149 from the Base Exchange while my Dyson Animal was getting the brush replaced because I wore it down vacuuming everyday. What a huge mistake purchasing the Bissell Pet Hair Eraser was and let me tell you the ways I hate this vacuum and regret the purchase.
1. The cord is in the back and down low on the unit. This causes you to step on it and vacuum over it. I have damaged it in two places. My remedy is I ran the cord through the loop on the handle.
2. Hose is too short. I need to reach under a king size bed (where my cats hang out) to vacuum. The hose plus extension attachments cannot reach causing the unit to topple over on me. There is not a wide floor head attachment for the hose to vacuum bear floors (around toilet and other semi-small spaces) the units floor brush keeps spinning and will occasionally spew debris in the air. The hose attachment loops around into the unit to deposit dirt when vacuuming carpet. You need to firmly put it in place or it pops off. The Pet Turbobrush attachment would not send dirt and debris into the dirt cup. It built up in the head and did not perform well on stairs. The Pet Contour Tool wasn't that impressive. You have to press and rake hard across furniture and still long hair gets tangled in it.
3. The unit is louder than my Dyson. The dirt cup is small and debris gets backed up in the upper part requiring you to reach up and pull it out. The Pet Hair Lifter made no difference either up or down when vacuuming. It did not pick up litter off of bare floors very well. The first two months it cleaned carpets well. It really is not very well self-propelled and it does take more effort to maneuver than the Dyson. As of Oct 09 it is losing suction and the brush has difficulty over the Berber-type carpet even on the highest setting. There is now a burning smell coming from the unit.
I do not recommend purchasing this product. I'm glad I have my Dyson back. It is worth the $500.

I purchased this product yesterday after refusing to pay for one more professional clean job. The last time, the carpets came out great but I was smelling chemicals for months.
